P-Funkateers - Final Fling (LAY) Oct 05
Nasty` nasty funk outing from the P-Funkateers on Look At You. This three-tracker recalls the classic sound of Parliament` Bootsy Collins and Curtis Mayfield with a dope house edge. The A-side is a slamming disco-driven vocal funk bomb withplenty of wah wah guitars` strings and chunky drums doing major damage on the floor. On the B-side BackRoomSounds turns it out with two slamming mixes` a filtered` housey main mix and a stripped down percussive dub that'll make for some great mixing moments. Nice funk/soul vibe that'll appeal to fans of the current mega-hit 'Precious Love.'

Cielo Sumario (Sounds Like Soul)
July 04
Backroomsounds feat. Gisela / Cielo Sumario (SoundsLikeSoul/UK) If you’re just about to think “Oh no, not another LATINHOUSE tune”, you might really think twice before judging this track fast. The more often I listen to it, the hotter it seems to get. Sam Gibbon’s latest musical adventure is with its spoken Spanish lyrics filled with an uplifting and positive message and a hypnotizing bass line is a pure winner on the dance floors and became very quickly one of my top tunes for this summer!

Northern Soul - (Device)
Jan 04
Device is the relatively new offshoot of Soulfuric and here they give us another wicked production from BackroomSounds. Sam Gibbons delivers two mixes -the main mix is guitar filled jazzy house cut with retro style keys that will please Maw/ Restless Soul fans. While the dub mix is more simple, where the keys have been looped making into a soulfuric style cut that causes dancefloor mayhem. Without a doubt the best Device release to date.

Northen Soul (deVICE)
"deVICE kick of the new year with an EP showcasing the talents of both Backroom Sounds and Primo. Both these offerings are more akin to their parent label, Soulfuric, than the releases that have come before them. “Northern Soul” from backroom Sounds is a gentle but funky number infused with live bass, guitar licks, and rhodes a plenty. Primo delivers “Drop The Funk” which does exactly what it says on the tin. The ingredients are not dissimilar to the A- Side but the flavour is completely different possibly as a result of the inclusion of horns and a really cool piano. Both tracks appear in Main and Dub versions leaving you spoiled for choice on both counts. If this is anything to go by, you’re going to hear a lot more from both of these artists."

P-Funkateers - Final Fling (LAY) Oct 05
Essential tune. P-Funketeers / Final Fling (LookAtYou/US) Ok I admit, that every time, when I think that discohouse is finally done and I'm beyond being bored with it, something strange happens. Something like the release of 'Final Fling'. This one sets quite some retro disco energy free, but with a nasty coolness rarely heard before. The original mix from Nick Moss aka Groove Assasin is the one that already set Miami's WMC this year under pressure and it's the perfect peaktime tool to catch the crowd. If you want it even a touch trippier, check out the exciting BackRoomSounds mixes with their MURDER bassline. Slamming package and my favorite release on LAY this year so far!

This collaboration between Nick Moss, (Groove Assassin) and Sam Gibbons, (Backroom Sounds) has a raw seventies feel to it that carries you off on a rather funky little journey lasting around eight minutes. Think bass, strings and retro vocals and you’ll begin to get the idea. There are three mixes included all of which will do a handy job on most dance-floors. It’s not the easiest of tracks to describe so I’ll keep it simple: you’ll be needing this…

Northern Soul (deVICE)

This project is under the watchful and experiences eye of the Soulfuric people. All the stranger then that a US based label under the Soulfuric umbrella should release a track called 'Northern Soul'. Okay the producer BackRoomSounds is British, but its still interesting to see the long and historical tentacles of northern soul reaching across the pond to a US label. I can only assume that the producer of this track is a true northern fan, because he certainly knows what a soulful instrumental should sound like. Jazzy and vibrant to the end, combined with a bpm that will need the nimblest of feet to deal with the testing but will-funky pace. Primo's (Jim Sykes) 'Drop The Funk' keeps the jazz house flag flying high and his work breezes along at an equally devastating rate of beats. Muted horn, energetic guitar loops and jazzy keys are sprinkles over the pumping and slick production that's as ripe as any Tappert/Pomeroy production." Yogi Haughton
Northern Soul (deVICE) Feb 04
In what could be the start of quite a long running series, Soulfuric offshoot Device introduce two new (-ish) UK producers on one EP, hence the title Nu-Breed! The first track, Northern Soul comes from Manchester's
Sam Gibbons (better known as BackRoomSounds) and with its deep rhodes and guitar licks contains all the right elements to get you grooving. The second track from another Northern producer Primo contains some more
jazz-funk overtones and whilst probably not as lively as the first cut, it still makes a welcome addition to the overall package. (Curtis Zack) 3/5

"This label is fast gaining a reputation for quality house. A bit more chilled out than Axwell's 'Wait A Minute'. Primo serves up 'Drop Da Funk', which is a piano-laden late night jazz house instrumental. 'Northern Soul' from BackRoomSounds is more of the same, except you could move it into a peak-time set. Furous Funk: (18-11-03)
A hidden gem of a producer, Sam Gibbons aka Backroomsounds has come up with a belter! Furious Funk is indeed funky and soulful, disco even if you must, with an amazing sax, lush keys and a bassline that makes you wanna shake your groove thang. Couple that with the female vocal "music, life and soul" and before you know it your ass will be a shakin. The a side has a remix by Graham of the Audiowhores with a brs afro soul mix on the b side, which is more percussive led but loses none of the funk. Hats off to some more badass UK produced house, let's hear it for the boy(s)!

Furious Funk:
(28-10-03)
This song is really one that combines all different styles. It's a mixture of Funk, Jazz, Soul and Latin.
For the latin house lovers The BRS Afro Soul Mix will do it for you. The guitar rifs are funky with slightly a soca feeling. Adding the Sax that gives the song an uplifting feel which sets it out to be one of the big TUNES this fall.
For the more soulfull house lovers Word Of Mouth Mix remixed by Audiowhoreshas quite the same elements without the latin feel but will also stirr the
crowd. Highly recommended.

Furious Funk: (21-10-03)
I guess the title says it all of the track and the always funky Word Of Mouth once again tear up the groove in fine style. This provides a lesson in jazzy Rhodes chords with a full-blown Sax driving the energy levels skyward. The BRS ‘Afro soul Mix’ then gets rough with tribal beats and
pounding basslines. Tasty.

Furious Funk:
I don't know, when or where this bomb will be released - but whenever it will be around, don't dare to miss it! TUNE alert. Hottest excitement on the dancefloor is promised! Sam Gibbons is the man behind this track and if you listened to his mixshow on DeepVibes last month, you know what to expect. Pure funk - it may be furious - but that's what we need to shake our bodies: true furious freaking rocking funk!

Kay Gee: (14-05-02)
CITYSOUNDS EXCLUSIVE AND ITS A MUST PURCHASE
A fresh hoy, new 12" from BackRoomRounds MR SAM GIBBONS, this track is best described as along the same lines as 'The Audiowhores' Production but trust this is rather tasty sampling the classic kay-gee 70"s classic groove. A real puchy main room slab of chunky well produced house/music we like this it will fly!
